California Climate Action Registry

The California Climate Action Registry accepted its last emissions inventory reports and officially closed in December 2010. The California Registry recognized that success in emissions reporting must be based on consistent data in an integrated system that stretches beyond California’s borders. Thus, it has been transitioning its members to The Climate Registry. The California Registry will continue to maintain emissions data from members’ pioneering voluntary early action commitments in perpetuity on this website.

Members of the California Registry served as true leaders in environmental responsibility. They were among the first in the world to measure their emissions according to comprehensive and rigorous standards and make their emissions publicly accessible online. Together, the California Registry and its members influenced California climate change policy, such as Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32) and worked to ensure proper recognition from the state for early actions to reduce emissions.

Achievements

  • 863 verified GHG emissions reports were received
  • Those reports represent 972,802,087.81 metric tons CO2e of direct and indirect emissions
  • 415 members participated in the program
  • 270 Climate Action Leaders were recognized
  • 15 Charter Members supported the program

The Climate Registry

The California Registry is transitioning its members to The Climate Registry, a nonprofit GHG emissions registry for North America that provides organizations with the tools and resources to help them calculate, verify, report and manage their GHG emissions in a publicly transparent and credible way.

The Registry was established in 2007 by U.S. states and Canadian provinces and today is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of senior officials from 41 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, 13 Canadian provinces and territories, 6 Mexican states and 4 Native Sovereign Nations. Climate Action Reserve

The California Registry’s parent organization, the Climate Action Reserve, operates the premier carbon offset registry for the North American carbon market. The Reserve built upon the California Registry’s knowledge and expertise in GHG accounting and developed a regulatory-quality program to quantify GHG emissions reductions from offset projects.
